Generally, lyric videos should be milder than music videos because only the lyrics should be on the image to make the text easier to read and appreciate. But it seems that these unwritten rules have changed these days.
Designers have become very creative as ever about this, especially when it comes to groups that no longer exist. London-based animation studio Trunk has written lyrics for artists such as Lily Allen, U2, and Kylie. With this device, they can republish the video on YouTube and make it visible to the audience.
Designing a Cosmic Empire
The Beatles-related project focused on a new video from Yes Please Productions London, featuring the band’s lead guitarist, George Harrison. As part of the 50th anniversary of Harrison’s first post-Beatles album, All Things Must Pass, the team created a soundtrack video for Harrison’s Cosmic Empire. When it comes to classics like this, a lyric is often the first time an official image has been linked to music. The creators of the video contacted Harrison’s son, Dhani Harrison, about the video. This team is sacred geometry – the concept that every shape has its own meaning.
The Cosmic Empire begins with a look at the empire of the same name, with details of unique plants and animals. The team also used Harrison’s archival photography and added an old-fashioned feel to the images. Since its release in July, Cosmic Empire has received more than 300,000 views.
